Aden
Dear Comrade
As a member of the Royal
Military Police (1963-1988), my first posting was HQ P&SS Aden (1964-66). In
2010 I found myself back in the Yemen working for the Foreign Office. I took the
opportunity to revisit Aden. The old billets/cookhouse/hospital/HQ P&SS/ etc
in Steamer Point have been taken over by the military, and neglected! For
obvious reasons I had to be very careful when taking photographs but your
readers who served in Aden should be able to recognize them.
I maybe
corrected on the name of the "Red Sea" building. It was used as RAF transit
accommodation(?) for SNCO's on their way out of Aden. Our joint RMP/RAFP patrols
use to call into the kitchen for a buckshee snack! Also, I can't remember if the
round house on the hill in the telegraph bay photo was occupied by the Admiral
or Johnnie Johnson RAF
Unfortunately I was medivac'd - with minor
injuries - from Yemen in Oct 2010 when my armoured vehicle was attacked with an
RPG! I can safely say that I have now retired!
Best Wishes
