Last Sunday we went to see the Bicester Home Guard re-enactment Group at Launton near Bicester who put on a fantastic display in the Village Hall in aid of the roof repair. The group is run by 'Captain' Brian Tegg, who is an RAFPA LHC member, with a great bunch of enthusiastic re-enactors and an extensive display of WW2 weapons and memorabilia. I was also given instruction on the Vickers machine gun. Being of a certain age it was all recognisable, especially the Micky Mouse gas mask which traumatised a whole generation of us kids doing air raid drill. All the weapons are privately owned and deactivated and a Sten Gun on display brought back memories and the younger children loved the Carrier Pigeons in their basket.
