Yesterday we said our final goodbye to Tony Lake. We gave him a dignified, military style farewell. The Honour Guard and Standard bearers lined up along the road and gave him a 'rolling salute' as he passed them on his way to the Chapel.
The weather was perfect and a big thank you to all the RAFPA members and ex RAF Police, for travelling long distances to attend: Gus McGowan came down from Scotland; Geoff Durston from Liverpool; Sidney Inch from Plymouth, and; Brian Whitaker and Mick Hall had travelled from Newark, to name but a few.
Tony's Service in the RAF, and especially his active support to the RAFPA over many years, was honoured by WO Frank Green, Thank you Frank.
As Joy and I were leaving, a member of the Crematorium staff told us she had been moved to tears by the salute and the sight of all the veterans wearing their medals, while they paid their respects to an old friend, made her feel pround to be British. Duty Done Big T........Rest Easy
