In July 2001 a RAF Police team from RAF Provost & Security Services (Central Region) based at RAF Cranwell will take part in the annual Cape to Cape Challenge with the aim of raising £7500 for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.
The Cape to Cape Challenge is 4,000 mile test of teamwork, planning and stamina and involves a non stop drive from the northern tip of Norway to the Southern tip of Spain. The journey must be completed in accordance with all national traffic laws (including speed limits) and if the current record of 56 hours and 55 minutes is to be broken it will be through meticulous planning of the route and an ability to avoid traffic jams. The team will leave Nordkapp on 5 Jul 00 and hope to reach Cape Tarifa on 7Jul 00.
The primary aim of the team is to raise money for the Air Ambulance and it is hoped that this will be achieved through commercial sponsorship as well as individual donations.
The team will consist of:
Flight Lieutenant Kevin Shieber
Sergeant Maria Roberts
Corporal Tony Porter
Corporal Ian Young
