Come & enjoy life among the vineyards near Cognac

SW France.

A warm welcome awaits you.

We ensure that everything is perfect for your arrival.

Joie de Vie was designed with two objectives in mind: committed to provide a comfortable, relaxing & enjoyable holiday at minimum cost (we ask only for a small donation to cover utilities & evening meals) & to be able to provide for a guest where mobility can be a problem.

The accommodation is single storey, adjoined to the owners accommodation but completely self-contained & is open plan for easy wheelchair access.  From the entrance there is a large fully-fitted double bedroom & for relaxation: comfortable chairs & a separate dining area.  There is also a large wet room (unlimited hot water) with facilities for disabled people & a small kitchenette.

We are non-smoking inside the property & regret that we cannot accommodate any pets.

Access is via level paved paths.  A small courtyard outside the entrance & a large terrace are for your sole use, with a table tennis table & BBQ.  There is a range of tables, chairs & sun beds on which to relax.  We also have a swimming pool (greatest depth 1m20) with a further large terraced area (shared with us).  The garden of acre has views of the neighbouring farm and farmland & is set to lawn with fruit trees & shrubs.  There is plenty of parking.  The accommodation has been comprehensively furnished, including a TV for watching DVDs, radio/CD player and a selection of board games, DVDs jigsaws & books.  Free Internet access is available via wireless broadband

connection & there is a laptop for Internet/Skype calls.  For important calls you may use our landline, which is free to most of Europe.

The kitchenette is equipped with a fridge/freezer, 2 ring electric hob & a microwave grill.  We offer an evening meal to be enjoyed with us, or served in your own dining area/outside terrace if you prefer.  We can cater for any diet.

The fridge will be stocked with some basic food items for your arrival & there is a range of teas & coffees too.

Bath towels/hand towels & all linen is provided (please bring your own swimming towels).  There is a hairdryer, cooling fan & safe in the wardrobe.

There is a friendly restaurant opposite, mostly open at lunchtimes (often Saturday evenings) serving a 13 euros menu (around 11) consisting 4 courses: starter, main course, cheese course, dessert with coffee & a carafe of wine!  Otherwise in the village: a post office/shop selling basic groceries, fresh bread & petrol; a pharmacy, doctor and dentist (nearest supermarket 5km).   Cognac (12km) has hypermarkets & several supermarkets.

St. Fort sur le N lies among the vineyards, 10 mins south of the lovely town of Cognac, which is on the river Charente, and is the centre of the cognac production, where visits can be made to the distilleries.

We can personally take you on visits to explore our area, go shopping or arrange a hire car for you.  Bikes can be borrowed.

We can pick-up/drop off at the airport or station.  Most frequently used airports are - from a range of UK destinations: Bordeaux (1h20); La Rochelle (1h20); Poitiers (2h15); Limoges (2h15) with choices of low-cost or scheduled airlines.

For train travel we are 45 mins from Anguleme with fast TGV connections direct to Paris Gare Montparnasse & then on to London St. Pancras from Gare du Nord.

Specific requirements please do not hesitate to ask.

We aim to assist you in whatever way possible.

A little bit about us:

Phil was in the RAF for over 30 years & Paulette worked mostly in schools, but had to give up work following the aftermath of major surgery &  suffered years of chronic pain.   We moved to France in June 2009 after she was completely healed.  We know from experience how valuable it is to enjoy a special break away just when you are most in need of time out & relaxation.
