The Alan Rusling Memorial Award was awarded on 12 occasions between 1998 - 2009, it being in memory of the late President & Founder of the North West Area Branch of RAFPA, the architect of the RAFPA Branch network.

It was also on his format for the North West Branch Reunion Weekends that the current RAFPA AGM/Reunion weekends are based and it is his 1995 design of the Branch badge from which the current RAFPA Badge/Crest was developed.

The recipients had been adjudged to have rendered outstanding service to the Royal Air Force Police Association at either an Association or Branch level (or both).

In 2009 the North West Area Branch withdrew  its support for the award without reason and introduced a Branch President's Award with identical criteria. In view of this it was reluctantly concluded by "The Family" that the Memorial Award should be discontinued as there clearly was not enough scope within RAFPA for two such identical awards and that to enter into a "bidding war" for nominations would be demeaning to Alan's memory.

The Memorial Award was re-introduced in 2015 ,under the patronage of the then St. Michael's Branch (Designate), to mark the 21st Anniversary of the founding of RAFPA's Branch system.
